Keynote Juli Burney: Those Who Laugh, Last
Monday January 20, 2025 9:00am - 10:30am CST
Often people are concerned humor may be inappropriate in school systems however, having
good humor means having a positive attitude toward situations. We are all born with a sense of
humor, we just haven’t been taught how to use it. Humor helps us remain cool under pressure
and keep challenges in perspective. Stress is a perception of an event. We may not be in control
of the events happening around us, however we can control our response to those events. This
is when a sense of humor is essential. Humor helps creativity and builds stronger relationships.
Those who laugh, last through it all (even the winter months!).

Making Group Work Meaningful
Monday January 20, 2025 10:45am - 11:30am CST
Think back to the last time your teacher said, “Time for group work!”—was your first thought, "This is going to be a disaster"? If you were like me, you probably wondered, “Will I have to do everything?” or “Can I just do everything myself?”

When I became a teacher, I was determined to change that dynamic. I learned how to turn group work into an engaging, productive experience for students by teaching effective collaboration skills, communicating purposefully, and making grading fair and individualized.

In this session, I’ll share practical strategies to help you transform group work in your classroom. Together, we'll troubleshoot common challenges, explore creative solutions, and collaborate on ways to make group work a powerful tool for student learning—one that reduces stress for both you and your students.

Walk away with actionable techniques and strategies to make group work a win for everyone!

Midwest Bank of Plainview and Plainview Elementary School have teamed together to promote financial literacy for all elementary students. Each month we offer incentives to the class with the most depositors and try to include community businesses to join our efforts in supporting and encouraging young children to save money. We offer prizes to depositors throughout the year as well. The bank is run by upper elementary and high school students. We celebrate the accomplishments for the year in May and present any graduating 6th graders with a check for their deposits over the years. This is our second year in business and our team is happy to share what it took to get started and things we learned along the way to make it better.

Monday January 20, 2025 10:45am - 11:30am CST
Nebraska emphasizes MTSS and the role it plays in continuous improvement, and integrating HAL into MTSS will help create coherence and improve educational access for all students. Integrating HAL into MTSS promotes responsive programming, supports continual service to meet needs, and breaks down silos between HAL and the general education classroom. HAL students often make the least amount of growth in a year. Improving our responsiveness to their needs will not only help HAL students, but the school as a whole. This breakout session aims to provide a framework and process for systemic integration of High Ability Learning into existing MTSS systems and share implementation successes from the first year of pilot school implementation.

Think back to the last time your teacher said, “Time for group work!”—was your first thought, "This is going to be a disaster"? If you were like me, you probably wondered, “Will I have to do everything?” or “Can I just do everything myself?”

HAL & MTSS: Learning for ALL
Monday January 20, 2025 2:00pm - 2:45pm CST

Making Group Work Meaningful
Monday January 20, 2025 2:00pm - 2:45pm CST
