Advanced Orthographic Mapping for Phonics and Spelling

Educators ask, “How do we take students to the next level of connecting sounds with the letters that represent those sounds in written text, especially when there is not a one-to-one correspondence between the sounds and letters?” Use orthographic mapping! Educators will learn the pieces and processes of orthographic mapping while practicing the strategy. Participants will leave with a guide to help them implement orthographic mapping with those tricky advanced phonics skills.

Elementary Financial Literacy (Jr. Pirate Branch)

Midwest Bank of Plainview and Plainview Elementary School have teamed together to promote financial literacy for all elementary students. Every Tuesday morning we have our bank open for depositors to make deposits and encourage students to be consistent savers. Each month we offer incentives to the class with the most depositors and try to include community businesses to join our efforts in supporting and encouraging young children to save money. We offer prizes to depositors throughout the year as well. The bank is run by upper elementary and high school students. We celebrate the accomplishments for the year in May and present any graduating 6th graders with a check for their deposits over the years. This is our second year in business and our team is happy to share what it took to get started and things we learned along the way to make it better.

My students have taken their second diagnostic assessment. Now what? How can I understand the reports? What resources do the reports offer? How do they translate into better and targeted instruction for my students? Come spend some time focused on learning more about what i-Ready math has to offer through data analysis! Participants need to bring their computers to this session.
