Elementary Financial Literacy (Jr. Pirate Branch)
Monday January 20, 2025 10:45am - 11:30am CST
TBA
Midwest Bank of Plainview and Plainview Elementary School have teamed together to promote financial literacy for all elementary students. Every Tuesday morning we have our bank open for depositors to make deposits and encourage students to be consistent savers. Each month we offer incentives to the class with the most depositors and try to include community businesses to join our efforts in supporting and encouraging young children to save money. We offer prizes to depositors throughout the year as well. The bank is run by upper elementary and high school students. We celebrate the accomplishments for the year in May and present any graduating 6th graders with a check for their deposits over the years. This is our second year in business and our team is happy to share what it took to get started and things we learned along the way to make it better.

Bringing Emerging Technologies to Life in the Classroom
Monday January 20, 2025 1:00pm - 1:45pm CST
TBA
Do you teach or are expected to teach technology in your classroom? Are you a Science, Computer Science, Technology, or FFA instructor, or an innovative teacher looking to inspire students with real-world applications? This session will introduce the latest technologies being explored in our Biological Systems Engineering department and actively applied in Nebraska’s fields, rivers, and ecosystems. From robotics and drones to big data and artificial intelligence, we’ll dive into how these tools are reshaping STEM careers in areas like sustainable agriculture, water management, and ecosystem monitoring.

Alongside an interactive showcase of these technologies, participants will engage in a collaborative workshop to co-design classroom activities tailored to K-12 needs. Together, we’ll craft strategies for bringing these cutting-edge tools into classrooms, creating engaging, age-appropriate experiences that bridge the gap between emerging technology and education. This session empowers teachers to integrate the latest innovations in STEM, enriching K-12 learning and inspiring the next generation of problem-solvers and innovators.

Think back to the last time your teacher said, “Time for group work!”—was your first thought, "This is going to be a disaster"? If you were like me, you probably wondered, “Will I have to do everything?” or “Can I just do everything myself?”

When I became a teacher, I was determined to change that dynamic. I learned how to turn group work into an engaging, productive experience for students by teaching effective collaboration skills, communicating purposefully, and making grading fair and individualized.

In this session, I’ll share practical strategies to help you transform group work in your classroom. Together, we'll troubleshoot common challenges, explore creative solutions, and collaborate on ways to make group work a powerful tool for student learning—one that reduces stress for both you and your students.

Walk away with actionable techniques and strategies to make group work a win for everyone!

Suicide Prevention and Response Guide
Monday January 20, 2025 2:00pm - 2:45pm CST

Students today cannot adequately be compared to students 10 years ago. One of the needs that all students benefit from is prevention. Research supports that discussing suicide and creating safe conversations around suicide prevention does not increase the likelihood of students or adults attempting suicide, it actually decreases the likelihood. Within this guide you will find resources and materials that you may use in the event that students are struggling with suicidal thoughts or intentions.

Specifically geared toward school guidance counselors, administrators, school psychologists, and LMHPs.

In this interactive session, you'll gain insights into how you can use 3D printing in your band, choir, orchestra, and general music classes, and ignite creativity in you and your students.

Agenda:
  1. Sharing Inspirational Projects: We'll kick off the session with a hands-on showcase of 3D-printed creations designed for the music classroom. From custom instrument parts to music-themed visual aids, to modifications for students with disabilities, you'll witness how 3D printing has enhanced music education at the Norfolk Middle School.
  2. Types of 3D Printers and Access: We'll explore the various types of 3D printers available, discussing their features, costs, and suitability for educational settings. You'll also learn where to find 3D printers, whether it's in your school's media center, STEM classes, or public libraries.
  3. 3D Modeling and CAD Software: In this section, we'll dive into the basics of 3D modeling and Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) software. You'll discover user-friendly tools and resources that allow you to design custom music-related objects, empowering you to create your own unique teaching materials.
  4. Understanding Filament, Material Selection, and where to find STL/3MF files: Filament choice plays a crucial role in 3D printing. We'll discuss different types of filaments, their characteristics, and how to select the most suitable material for your specific projects. We will also look at where to find files that makers have already created that you can simply print for classroom use.
  5. Brainstorming Session: The workshop concludes with a collaborative brainstorming session. Educators are encouraged to share their ideas and projects, or explore the vast potential 3D printing offers in the music classroom.

Exchange creative ideas, discover potential collaborations, and leave with a wealth of inspiration. Join us for this exciting workshop and enhance your music classroom with the limitless possibilities of 3D printing. Unlock new dimensions of creativity, engage your students, and empower them to explore the intersection of art and technology. A link to the presentation can be found here: http://bit.ly/48h7zJF
